I am relatively new to the whole Joomla world but since I have started I could not be more happy. I have a fear of new/beta versions of any software and started developing sites using Joomla 1.5 This article has brought to my attention some of the key things I was looking for. Everyone of the must haves pointed out in the article seem to offer a useful addition to my design "toolbox". I am really excited about the JCE Editor for 1.6 because anytime I can stay our of source code the better for me.

A few other features built into 1.6 that I have found while researching are the ability to hide pages from users that are logged in. On one of my sites, I have basic information that is visible to the public, but this information is not needed for people that are members and already have an understanding of how the business works. 1.6 allows me to hide the general public pages to logged in members to streamline there experience. Also, 1.6 allows public users the ability to register to become a member and shoots the administrator and email that allows them to approve/deny membership. This is huge for me. The ability to let a user set up there own username and password (saves me time) and sends me an email to approve members of my choosing.

I am looking forward to trying all the modules and plug-ins mention in the article. It is exciting to see what the new version can do. Thanks David for the info.

@Matt - Very interesting! Can't say I'm surprised to hear of your success :) If for no other reason, something like LinkedIn is great just to keep your contacts organized and accessible (and vise versa).

If you're experiencing success using Linkedin, carry over that same strategy to Facebook! Facebook ads can be productive and effective, but they're nowhere near as effective as making a genuine interaction or reconnecting with someone.

Good luck and let us know how you do!

I have had a web site for many years, added a blog several years ago (www.logo-richmond.com) and watched with interest the development of social media. I started doing linkedin last year and so far have seen one great opportunity come from it when the local PTA president who knew me as "the tee shirt guy" realized I could help him with hospitality gifts for a national convention coming to town. What excites me is that I discovered Constant Contact last month and sent my first newsletter last week. I got a reorder in 20 minutes of the launch and finally have a way to communicate effectively with people who know, like and are interested in me and what I have to offer. I don't understand Twitter at all and don't see it as a problem because I don't think my clients are twittering. FaceBook is something I am trying out as I put an ad online yesterday. The most amazing thing of all is I am a 62 year old but I refuse to let age keep me from trying something new. Sad all the people who won't try anything new.
